Hello, my name is Naledi, and I am an experienced piano teacher based in Southside, Glasgow. Teaching piano has been my focus for nearly eight years, during which I’ve developed a unique approach that combines traditional techniques with innovative methods. My background in live performance and original music composition informs my lessons, making them both engaging and tailored to each student. I’m also dedicated to continued professional development, ensuring that I bring fresh, effective ideas into my teaching practice to support my students’ growth.

Please note…

My students are children aged 8+, teenagers and adults. Teaching Piano to younger students aged 4+ is a specialist area and I am happy to help you find a suitable teacher if you are looking for lessons for a younger child.

My modern approach to music teaching means I enjoy playing and teaching jazz however, if you are looking to study jazz improvisation, this is niche area and will require a jazz teacher.

My teaching style

I’m a relaxed and easy-going teacher and deliver enjoyable, educational and well-structured lessons to my students. Over the years I have taught a variety of students, ranging from complete beginners, to advanced players, self-taught pianists and students returning to piano from a break. Ultimately my goal is to help you become a more confident, well-rounded musician and to have fun doing it.

I like to work with a student’s interests so the genre(s) of music we study are completely up to you… Classical / Pop / Jazz / Blues / Traditional / Rock / Easy listening etc. Lessons are very much tailored to your needs and centre around what will benefit you the most, in terms of your musical development and your enjoyment of music.

Exploring different styles of music is fun! You might find that you gravitate more to one specific style and want to focus on this, in any case, what you enjoy most will dictate the direction we go in.

I firmly believe that anyone can learn to play a musical instrument and that access to music tuition should be available to people of all ages, races, genders and socio-economic backgrounds.

Here are some of the areas we will cover in your lessons:

Rhythm, coordination, playing technique, creativity, musical expression, music theory, sight reading, interpreting lead sheets, practice techniques, overcoming performance anxiety and much more.

I can also help you to prepare for exams in piano, theory, national 5, higher, advanced higher, HNC/HND etc.

Exams

It is important to note that it is not essential to sit exams. However for those who are keen, I do have a lot of experience in preparing students for exams, auditions and recitals. I find it a great way to inspire musicians and to celebrate their achievement, it is also a good way to gain experience and confidence of playing in front of others, if that’s something the student wants to do. Many of my students study with me for their ABRSM exams in particular and also Higher and National 4/5, so I am very used to preparing students to succeed in their exams. My approach to Piano and Theory exam study is to ensure that the focus is on developing musicianship and performance. After all, achieving a qualification is not the true goal, it is to develop a deeper understanding music and your instrument, the Piano.

Online or Face-to-face lessons?

I offer both Zoom lessons and in person lessons. Zoom is a convenient way to learn for those who don’t have time to commute or would like to fit in a lesson whilst working from home. Most students come for in person lessons or do a combination of both. I teach in both Edinburgh City Centre and Glasgow Southside. Both locations have fantastic public transport links, please see below…
